Devendra Banhart - Walillamdzi

Today, I’m going to post all the amazing videos I’ve saved up since my g*damn laptop was busted and in the shop this week.  Get ready, y’ins.

Next up: ol’ Dev gets all retro dreamy and steamy with this lil’ gem.  Gorgeous. Why can’t I have his life?

Director: Lauren Dukoff
cinematographer: David Black
producer: Paul Hahn, Daft Arts
editor: Daft Arts

Julian Lynch - Seed

This is the best, most engaging music video I’ve seen in a long, long time. Please grab a cup of hot tea, throw it up on full-screen mode and get lost. Amen.

[update: Julian is on Tumblr!]

Jack Shankly at Transparent sez: ”The good folk at OLDE ENGLISH SPELLING BEE have this week released this, the new video for JULIAN LYNCH ‘s squelchy, underwater glam swamp-rendition “Seed”. Directed by AMY RUHL and wonderfully colourful and warm, its off-kilter; luminous fixation with the strange, unaccountable forces of nature is the perfect accompaniment to Lynch’s slow-blossoming, exotic prog workout.”

“How weird has Vashti Bunyan’s life been? She made an album, was more or less forgotten forever and then dudes that have been on our covers like Animal Collective and Devendra Banhart reintroduced the world to her music and reminded us that it was not necessarily terrible to listen to music that sounded like smiling unicorns. In what seems like such a good move we’re surprised no one did it sooner, Vashti Bunyan: From Here to Before documents not only both sections of Bunyan’s career, but also her trip to retrace her steps as she travels from London to Scotland by horse and carriage. That alone is interesting enough for an entire movie, but the film also features cameos from like everyone who ever liked her music as well as existing as a career retrospective for one of the more interesting and confounding musical figures around. Vashti Bunyan: From Here to Before is playing tomorrow and Saturday at 7:30 at 92Y Tribeca.”

Balloon Boy - sure to spawn another short-lived, but rabid internet meme tidal wave. Let me know when Falcon gets his first theme song.

Baroness — The Blue Album
Now this is what I call album art. Not my style of music (metal), but damn they’ve got a great aesthetic.

So hot.
“Miami is the second album by punk blues group The Gun Club, released in 1982.
Debbie Harry appears as a backing singer on various tracks on the album under the pseudonym “D.H. Laurence Jr.”

The rare punk record for which my love is ever-expanding.
