Breathe Owl Breathe - The Listeners (The Mole & The Ostrich)
Since having a baby, I’ve been pondering the idea of playing my daughter ‘children’s music’. What is it that separates music for children from music for adults? Most of what I’ve heard so far sounds like nails-on-chalkboard, which, I’m sorry, Papa is NOT going to drive three hours in the car listening to that crap. I’m pretty sure she’s gonna be fine with chillwave and freak folk, no?
Luckily for me, there are happy mediums where some of my favorite indie artists are thinking outside the box and doing some radical stuff that’s not your run-of-the-mill plastic & wax. This Michigan band have collaborated on a beautiful new illustrated children’s book by Micah Middaugh and Chad Pastotnik that includes their new songs a 7” that you can play along to the book as a soundtrack.
And guess what? The music is actually really, really good:
It comes out soon - so pre-order right here to be sure to get your copy. Something tells me these will sell faster than your average 7”. I just picked up one, myself.
