Seamonster - Normandy Landscape
While recording his new work, Virginian Todd Webb was inspired by visual artist John Baldessari who is known for his “creative appropriation of discarded materials.” As such, Todd used all sorts of forgotten things to create his sounds: a Casio Sk-10 toy keyboard (which he received as a Christmas present in second grade), Yamaha PortaSound PSS-130 (thrifted), ukulele, an old iphone (purchased from a friend for $50), a Campbell’s soup can, and a broken Danelectro guitar. The results are sublime and beautiful.
Fittingly, the music video is made from home movies shot by Todd’s grandfather and cut together by filmmaker Chad Hartigan. Get Baldessari LP on Gold Robot Recordings coming out on September 11th.
