Jamaican Queens - Kids Get Away
Everyone knows Detroit can be a tough town, but you know it’s hard when this trio starts off this single with the lyrics: “I follow you home and I borrow your phone. / You keep letting all the children on your block keep slashing your tires. / I was covered in mace. / Lover, they cut up your face. / Throwing up I hit the ground in shame. / As the kids drove away.“
They tell me they’re “obsessed with southern hip hop, (3 6 Mafia, etc) Chicago juke, (DJ Elmoe, Traxxman, DJ Rashad) Detroit house, and glammy Eno-era pop shit, (Roxymuzikk, Bowie, etc…)” and record all their stuff themselves in a “sick studio right next to the abandoned train station.” No argument here.
Look for their full length debut - working title Wormfood - soon.
